Artificial intelligence, animal clones, therapeutic cures on gene defects, artificial reproduction, chemical synthesis – these are some of the many great contributions of science in the human society. Truly, science had been mankind’s catapult towards success and progress. The world of science has evidently been the pioneer of man to discovering the enigma beneath the depths of the ocean up to the highest peaks of the Earth’s topography. Scientific knowledge has brought about such deviation in our world’s countenance; but sad to say, some of these changes have been exasperating. Still, we can’t blame scientific knowledge for its power because it covers such vast topics yet it doesn’t include instructions on how to use this knowledge for the betterment.
The study of science, specifically of chemistry, dating back from 3000 BC had been considered more of an art rather than a science. Yet, the Indians, Greeks and Hebrews of the early periods paved way to treating Chemistry as a science rather than an art through the discovery of minerals such as gold. In a retrospective point of view, these minerals had been abundant; yet now, they almost cost such a fortune – and why is this so? The answer is simple. It is due to the fact that the mines of today had been devastatingly extracted dry of mineral deposits by large scale companies without considering the future generation. In fact, we ourselves brought this sad fate to ourselves.
“Science keeps on assiduously transforming the world, and trusts to luck that this transformation will be benign – beneficial to the majority,” says Henry Wallace. In relation to the above statement, we, as responsible inhabitants of this world should be able to use these transformations to our advantage and luckily providing better, accurate and effective solutions that had boggled the human brain for so long. And now is the time for us to be diffident as mortified about this chagrin we face today. Now is the time to act out and do something about it!
One of nature’s  way in showing the human race that we have been irresponsible is its deprovation of valuable mineral deposits. Therefore as science enthusiasts, how can the sustainability of Science and Technology be foundations for responsible mineral development? Well, having intangible knowledge pn Science, we should be able to decipher and analyze environmental issues that surround us. As we all know, science has been the never fading ambience encompassing each and every living and nonliving thing lingering on this planet. Therefore, the world of Science is greatly affected by the happenings around us. And so, Science itself has provided effective solutions on mineral development. One of these is the preservation of local sites containing measurable amounts of minerals. Another way is through synthetically producing mineral replicates such as diamonds. Synthetic diamonds had been compared to genuine diamonds yet had been proved almost identical to genuine ones.
Our country may be in the midst of economic crisis and at the same time at the peak of losing its treasured mineral deposits; yet we should be thankful that Science and Technology has greatly infected the minds of Filipinos; thus, giving way to what we call scientific breakthroughs provides us with alternative resources.
Let us bring back our once rich soils by the inevitable power of Science! Let us fertilize our minds with pure Science and shower the Earth with such richness.
