This Leadership Training Seminar came unexpectedly since it was Dr Rogelio Canuel, our OIC for the Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs who was supposed to be with the students for the said undertaking. Though my mind was not set for the task, I took charge of the responsibility.
We were scheduled to arrive at the venue on the early morning of April 8 for I will still attend our graduation ceremony on the day before. But the two students who I will accompany insisted that we need to be there on April 7 so I have to prepare my things an hour before noon of that day. I thought I would just be a chaperone to both students in the camp like I did in a PSYSC regional camp I attended in Laguna several years ago. I was surprised to know that the advisers will be a part of the LTS of the students. This was my first time in a national camp.
The 4-day LTS experience was remarkable because it strengthened my conviction about the influence of teachers on the life of the students. The first activity about the characteristics of a good adviser refurbished in my mind my commitment to educate the youth. It reminded me of my dedication to assist and guide students in their schoolwork and even in their personal glitches. To be an effective teacher or adviser, one must be creative, innovative and considerate about the individual differences of each learner.
The Philosophy Preference Assessment activity made me realize that there is no perfect strategy or principle in education. The best strategy is the one that brings out the best in every student.
The activity “The Last Time Passenger” evaluates one’s decision making skills. Sometimes making decisions is difficult. Arguments may arise but the important thing is that a decision was made from the collaboration of diverse minds.
Team work and sharing are shown in the last two games. In an organization, one has to do his or her share of work to reap the fruits of success. Every task is important and each member of the group has his or her unique talent to impart. It is also significant for an organization to have a work plan and an appropriate strategy for everything to work accordingly.
The film showing portrayed the true essence of being a teacher. I realized that teachers really spend more time for work. We have great influence on our students so that what we teach them will be who they will become in the future. We can make or break our students by what and how we teach them. On the other hand, we also learn from our students’ experiences and problems.  The teaching profession has taught me a lot to understand people, to handle situations, become a leader and adviser to young science clubbers.
The LTS participants are all amazingly bright students who I know will be active leaders of the PSYSC in the future. They did a good job in their project proposal.
The LTS indeed rekindled in me the passion, commitment and dedication for my profession. My students and I will bring these worthwhile experiences we had in our region and school. Rest assured that we will keep the light burning for PSYSC in our hearts.
Congratulations and thank you PSYSC.
